A legend in the sports and entertainment business, Dick Ebersol, Chairman, NBC Universal Sports & Olympics, has produced virtually every major sporting event around the world.  The past few years saw him oversee exceptional productions of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Super Bowl XLIII, stunning Wimbledon finals, the highest rated U.S. Open golf championship and the first two NHL Winter Classics. He also received multiple honors, including the 2008 Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and Executive of the Year honors from SportsBusiness Journal/Daily. In this one-on-one interview, Ebersol will reflect on his career, share his thoughts on the sports industry and provide his views on the changing dynamics of sports media.

Case Study: The New York Yankees and In-Market Streaming

This summer, in a landmark deal among YES Network, Cablevision and MLBAM, the New York Yankees became the first MLB team to have its games streamed live online within its home market. In this presentation, you will hear from Bob Bowman, President and CEO, MLB Advanced Media and Tracy Dolgin, President and CEO, YES Network, who will go into detail about how the deal was orchestrated and how the different parties involved arrived at a plan to make it work for consumers, Major League Baseball, YES, Cablevision and other distributors and advertisers.

No longer simply a small-scale, add-on to sports property media plans, online video is now garnering mass audiences and delivering brand-name content in near-HD resolution. You will hear Perry Cooper, Senior Vice President, Digital Media and NHL Direct, NHL; Joe Inzerillo, Senior Vice President, Multi Media and Distribution, MLB Advanced Media; John Kosner, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Digital Media, ESPN; Bryan Perez, Senior Vice President and General Manager, NBA Digital; and Bobby Tulsiani, Senior Analyst, Forrester Research, discuss next steps in propagating online video, building a large-scale business model against it and improving user experience. Television rights overseas have seen significant changes recently, with ESPN’s launch of its own channel in Britain, the return of Formula 1 to BBC Sports and Setanta’s bankruptcy. What does the current sports media landscape look like overseas? And what kind of media opportunities are there for networks and leagues? This session will address those questions and also examine trends in programming, as well as broadband and mobile distribution.
