From academic eligibility to minority hiring to the impact of today's economic conditions, the challenges facing the leaders of intercollegiate athletics have never been more daunting.  And, in many respects, the profile and upside of college sports has never been greater.  In this opening panel discussion, you will hear four of the leaders in higher education -- Michael Adams, University of Georgia; Myles Brand, NCAA; Graham Spanier, Penn State University; and Nancy Zimpher, University of Cincinnati -- weigh in on the state of and outlook for intercollegiate sports.

Gordon Gee may be best known in college sports for the bold and controversial changes he made in 2003 to the Vanderbilt athletics program.  Now president of The Ohio State University, Gee has proven that he is not averse to taking on new challenges -- and risks -- by providing presidential oversight to the nation's largest college athletics program.  In this one-on-one interview, he will share his thoughts on a range of issues facing intercollegiate athletics, including the economy and athletic budgets; campus-wide sustainability initiatives; the commercialization of college sports; and the impact of academic reform on athletics.

As costs continue to rise in the competitive environment of intercollegiate athletics, so do the budgets that must cover these expenses.  So where can administrators turn to generate incremental revenue, especially during such unpredictable economic times?  Sandy Barbour, University of California; Mitch Barnhart, University of Kentucky; Warren Hood, University of Illinois; Steve Moore, International Stadia Group; and Jon Oliver, University of Virginia, will discuss ways to generate more money, including adding football to the athletics program, selling suites and public seat licenses and tapping into the private sector.

ONE-ON-ONE WITH: Mike Slive, Commissioner, Southeastern Conference
SEC Commissioner Mike Slive has filled prominent roles across the spectrum of college sports, from his experience as coordinator of the Bowl Championship Series to his latest role as chair of the Division I Men's Basketball Committee this season.  In this one-on-one interview, Slive will share his thoughts on the future of intercollegiate athletics.  He will also provide insight into the SEC's landmark 15-year deal with CBS and ESPN for football, men's and women's basketball and Olympic sports rights.

Tackling Fantasy Football in College Athletics

Fantasy football in not new to college sports, but the latest developments have caused a real stir.  For the first time, individual player names and likenesses are being used and are testing the limits of the principle of amateurism in intercollegiate athletics.  Glenn Colton, Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati; Rick Karcher, Florida Coastal School of Law; Amy Perko, Knight Commission on Intercollegiate Athletics; Chris Plonsky, University of Texas; Wally Renfro, NCAA; and Rick Wolf, Fantasy Sports Association, will discuss the implications of this product and the future of fantasy involvement in college sports.

ONE-ON-ONE WITH: Bill Battle, Founder, The Collegiate Licensing Company -- An IMG Company

Bill Battle is a college sports pioneer with a history of colorful and innovative moves.  A football star at Alabama under legendary coach Bear Bryant, Battle went on to a successful coaching career at Tennessee, then became the founder of the influential Collegiate Licensing Company, which he sold to IMG in 2007.  Adding to his stature in college sports, Battle has now been selected by the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame for one of its major awards for his contribution to amateur football.  In this one-on-one session, we will take a look back at his contributions to college sports and talk about what he sees in the future.

Assessing College Sports TV Deals
Some of the top executives in charge of college sports on television will continue the debate about broadcast rights and the future of programming and distribution.  Mike Aresco, CBS Sports; Barry Frank, IMG; Jon Litner, Comcast SportsNet; Burke Magnus, ESPN/ABC; and Mark Silverman, The Big Ten Network, will look at the elements of the latest deals -- including the bundling of multi-media rights and network creation -- and weigh in on the future of college sports media.

Managing the Business of College Sports: The Athletic Director Perspective
There is no more challenging and ever-evolving role in college sports than that of the athletic director.  Consider some of the issues that are dealt with on a daily basis: unexpected escalations in travel budgets due to fuel costs; student athlete compliance; monetizing university athletics; the popularity and pitfalls of social networking; and, of course, the pressure to win.  During this roundtable, some of the top AD's in the country -- Joe Castiglione, University of Oklahoma; Lisa Love, Arizona State University; Jack Swarbrick, University of Notre Dame; and Ron Wellman, Wake Forest University -- will give their perspective on managing the business of college sports.
