'Bizzaro' Jerry Turns Away From The Fruit

In last year’s POV blog I wrote about understanding pop culture when crafting commercials.

Intentional or not, the ubiquitous whiteboard UPS ads use the intro of a song performed by a band named Postal Service, which I find baffling.

This weekend I thought I picked up on another faux paus.

The Geek Squad can debate the finer points of Mac vs. PC, but where does Jerry Seinfeld stand? On Sunday I saw that new Vista commercial where he goes shoe shopping with Bill Gates. Last night I was I flipping channels and caught two reruns of “Seinfeld.” Sitting on Jerry’s desk in each episode were different versions of Mac computers.

So I googled “Mac” and “Seinfeld.” Apparently during the show’s lengthy run on NBC it was a gold mine for product placement. One of the long-term deals was with Apple, which showcased various products on the show.

I’m adding “flip-flopper” to other popular catchphrases coined by the comedian.
