Branding Bonanza

Sometimes I think this whole branding thing goes too far.  Here’s a question (that I didn’t bother to run by anyone at ESPN) about today’s announcement of ESPN’s 15-year television deal with the SEC.

— All national programming will fall under the branding “SEC on ESPN.”
— The semifinals and championship of the SEC Men’s Basketball Tournament will be televised nationally for the first time on ESPN on ABC.

Come this spring, I hope that means we could hear the following lead-in: “Welcome college basketball fans to the first-ever presentation of the SEC on ESPN on ABC, as Tennessee and Florida compete for a No. 1 seed in the men’s NCAA tournament.”  That would be awesome.
